This report gives an overview of the key characteristics of trade in counterfeit goods and estimates its scale and magnitude, including insights into emerging trends. The report is based on most recent (2021) global customs seizure data and is an update of three previous studies on the same topic published in 2016, 2019 and 2021.
In 2021, global trade in counterfeit goods was valued at approximately USD 467 billion, or 2.3% of total global imports. The report also states that imports of counterfeit goods into the EU are estimated to have accounted for up to 4.7% of total EU imports in 2021, equivalent to USD 117 billion.
